This is one of my favorite lines from J. R. R. Tolkien’s poem “All That Is Gold Does Not Glitter.” It reminds me that we don’t have to make ourselves fit into a mold that doesn’t really fit and we can (as Joseph Campbell puts it) follow our bliss and take steps toward what we want our life to be. Perhaps that means “wandering” around, having experiences and finding out more about ourselves along the way. Maybe it means taking chances and discovering we can trust our inner voice that says “Yes!” to life.
None of us are ever lost. Every single thing that happens is right and perfect. All experiences are for a purpose and that purpose is always, always, always for the higher good of ourselves and everyone involved. The lessons we have to learn here may cause temporary suffering, but suffering is a part of life. Without it we would not know joy. The key is to get to the point where we no longer suffer and that can happen here if we allow it to and let love be our guide.
Love to you all this beautiful, fabulous, rainy Wednesday!
